Staunton City Schools prioritize retention approach in teacher job openings

STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) - Summer vacation for schools means it's open season for filling in teacher roles, including Staunton City Public Schools. The Queen City's school district has a to-do list of filling vacancies for Spanish teachers at the high school, a math and a science teacher at the middle school, and an elementary teacher - alongside several paraprofessional positions (instructional assistants) open as well.

Petersburg school unveils new rock climbing wall

PETERSBURG, Va. (WWBT) - Walnut Hill Elementary students now have a new opportunity to stay active at school. Thanks to Title 4 grant funds, the Petersburg City school has a new rock climbing wall in its gymnasium. RCPS moves forward with plan to keep Linville-Edom Elementary open

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) - On Monday night the Rockingham County School Board approved an easement for the installation of a new sewer discharge system at Linville-Edom Elementary School. The new system will keep the school open for the foreseeable future.

Speed cameras to go up in school and construction zones

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - When it comes to transportation, some Roanoke City Public Schools families might be breathing a sigh of relief as the 2022-2023 school year comes to a close. HENRICO COUNTY, Va. - Career and Technical Education students and their families celebrated Letter-of-Intent Signing Day in Henrico County on Tuesday, May 23. The event, which began in 2018 and quickly went viral, mirrored letters-of-intent signing day ceremonies for college-bound athletes. 'Explicit' library materials, transgender resolution draw dozens to Virginia Beach School Board meeting

VIRGINIA BEACH - Contentious items on the Virginia Beach School Board agenda drew out dozens of public speakers in a meeting that stretched almost six hours Tuesday night. Nearly 80 people signed up to speak at the meeting, most of whom addressed a proposed policy regarding explicit content in library materials and a resolution regarding transgender students.

King William Schools name new superintendent

KING WILLIAM - King William County Public Schools has named Charles A. "Chuck" Wagner, the assistant superintendent for instruction in Gloucester County, as its next superintendent. Wagner, who was chosen from among 14 candidates, will begin his new role July 1. Wagner replaces David White, who was terminated by the King William School Board at the end of 2022.
