Halifax County School Board to set budget

Halifax County School Board plans to meet Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the public meeting room of the Mary Bethune Office Complex in Halifax for a budget work session. The board is slated to approve its budget following the work session. The school board has been reviewing a proposed $76,946,463 fiscal year 2023 budget.

Council vote to transfer George Wythe funds to RPS board fails

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - After hours of debate and public comment during Monday's City Council meeting, the fate of a new George Wythe High school is still in limbo. Despite receiving a majority of yes votes, the vote to transfer city funds to the Richmond School Board failed.

Plans for old Marion school continue

Plans continue by Smyth County Schools to demolish most of the former Marion Intermediate School, but asbestos abatement must first take place. At this month's school board meeting, Superintendent Dennis Carter said that the school system is expected to apply for a Brownfields grant to remove the asbestos.

Lynchburg City Schools hopes education career fairs can help fill vacancies

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ) - The halls of Heritage High School were alive Saturday morning, but not with students. Lynchburg City Schools staff hosted an education career fair to help meet potential new team members.

Bedford County student wins regional spelling bee, headed to D.C.

A Bedford County student has won The Roanoke Times Regional Spelling Bee and will compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee on Memorial Day weekend in Washington, D.C. Graham Woodruff, a seventh grader at Forest Middle School, won after 33 rounds in a virtual competition against finalists from 16 other school divisions, according to a recognition by Bedford County Public Schools.

Campbell County Public Schools to receive electric school buses that will save thousands on fuel

CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) - Schools in Campbell County are looking to the future when it comes to transportation for students. Campbell County Public Schools will be the first in the Lynchburg region to receive electric-powered school buses. They're manufactured by Thomas Built Buses who are pushing for districts around the nation to switch to electric-powered.

Henrico Schools promotes 3 new principals to replace retirees - The Henrico Citizen

The promotions and retirements will take effect July 1.

Stafford Student Wins Virginia Lottery's Thank A Teacher Art Contest

STAFFORD COUNTY, VA - A seventh grader from Edward Drew Middle School in Stafford County won the Virginia Lottery Thank a Teacher Art Contest in the middle school category. The student, Jocelyn Turman, will have her work featured on thank-you notes for teachers in May.
