Three student-led protests this school year at three different Hanover County high schools prompted the county's School Board Tuesday night to consider a proposed addition to the student code of conduct that clarifies its stance on protests and walkouts. The changes presented would add protests and walkouts to the glossary of definitions at the end of the code.

The employee signature cards have been counted and verified. Now, the Prince William County School Board will vote sometime before mid-July on whether to move forward with collective bargaining for qualifying school division staff.

Twenty-six schools in Fairfax County are dealing with a coronavirus outbreak, according to the Virginia Department of Health's COVID-19 dashboard. School officials say the changes are to better accommodate the transportation department with hopes of increasing on-time rates for middle and elementary schools.

Four Henrico County high school students are among 64 Virginia recipients of $2,500 National Merit Scholarships. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation selected 2,500 students from a pool of more than 15,000 finalists nationwide to receive the scholarships.

The recent spike in gas prices is causing some school districts to adjust their planned school year budget to cover bus fuel. During a school board meeting on Tuesday night, Hanover County Public Schools approved a budget shift of $220,000 from bus maintenance, repairs, insurance, and issues to cover the increased cost of Diesel fuel for the rest of the school year.
