GO TEC hosts first robotics competition for local middle school students

DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ) - Local middle school students got to show off their robotics skills in a friendly competition Wednesday. GO TEC held its first ever robotics competition at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research in Danville. 12 teams from Martinsville and Franklin, Pittsylvania, Halifax, Grayson, Cumberland, and Wythe counties were at the event.

Virginia Beach schools will dismiss early for Something in the Water

VIRGINIA BEACH - Because of the Something in the Water festival, Virginia Beach Public Schools will release early Friday, April 28 "due to uncertainty regarding traffic conditions," according to a notice sent to families Tuesday afternoon. Information regarding the adjusted dismissal schedule is available on the division website under " School Hours."

York County educator named one of eight finalists for Virginia Teacher of the Year

YORK COUNTY - Craig Reynolds, a fifth grade teacher at Magruder Elementary in York County, was named the 2024 Teacher of the Year for Region 2 on Monday. The award puts him in the running with seven other finalists for the statewide honor. The announcement was made during a surprise visit to Reynolds' school Monday afternoon.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) - Brunswick County Public Schools has announced the winner of Teacher of the Year for Virginia's Region VIII. Tequisha Stiles, an 8th-grade English teacher at James Solomon Russell Middle School, was named as one of the eight finalists for Virginia's Teacher of the Year 2024 - and the winner of Virginia Region VIII.

Students help plant urban forest garden at Robert S. Payne Elementary School

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ) -Students at a Lynchburg City elementary school helped to make the community a better place on Wednesday. Students at Robert S. Payne Elementary School helped plant an urban forest garden at the school. According to the district,, the school is in a food desert and this garden will not only benefit the students, but the community as a whole.
