CATEC to get new name as Charlottesville pursues takeover

The Charlottesville-Albemarle Technical Education Center, widely known as CATEC, will be getting a new name after the Charlottesville school division completes its takeover of the school. The school will be renamed the Charlottesville Area Technical Education Center once the transition is complete next year, Charlottesville City Schools said in an announcement on Friday that emphasized the city is working together with Albemarle County to ensure a "smooth transition" for the 50-year-old institution.

Lynchburg City Council, school board to hold joint meeting

The Lynchburg City Council and city school board will hold a joint meeting Tuesday, with discussions over the fiscal year 2024 budget and the pending school facility needs study on the agenda. Last week, the Lynchburg City School Board adopted its fiscal year 2024 budget request from the city, totaling $47.3 million.

Yorktown Elementary teacher arrested, accused of assaulting student

YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) - A teacher at Yorktown Elementary School has been arrested for assaulting a student, according to York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office. On March 24, YPSO said they received a report that a teacher at Yorktown Elementary had assaulted a student.

Food Bank, Stafford school open new food locker system

Lots of schools have lockers, but the system set up outside a Falmouth facility will hold far more than backpacks or gym shoes. Stafford County schools partnered with the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank to open a Community Smart Grocery Locker System, an innovative way for those needing food to access it.

ROCKY MOUNT, Va. (WDBJ) - Benjamin Franklin Middle School teacher Jennifer Hatch is a recipient of the 2023 National Excellence in Teaching About Agriculture Award. Only nine teachers across the country were given this honor. The accolades don't stop there. She was also named the Virginia Agriculture in the Classroom 2023 Teacher of the Year.

The money raised from the event will be put in the Rockingham Agriculture Heritage Fund, which helps give FFA students across the entire county the opportunity to compete at state and national conventions.
