Five New School Builds Deferred as Enrollment Stagnates - Loudoun Now

Loudoun County Public Schools administrators are planning to delay building five new schools because of lower enrollment numbers,. Chief Operations Officer Kevin Lewis briefed the School Board on the proposed changes to the district's Capital Improvements Program on Monday.

Failing grades improve, but Prince William students still struggling with learning loss

Enrollment at Prince William County Public Schools has increased slightly this school year but remains below its pre-pandemic level. As of the fall reporting deadline for Virginia school divisions, 89,508 students were enrolled in county schools, up slightly from 89,076 from the same time last year, but still about 2% fewer than in the fall of 2019, when 91,526 students were enrolled.

More electric school buses headed to some Virginia counties

More electric school buses are headed to some central and southwest Virginia counties courtesy of funding from a 2007 clean air settlement between Appalachian Power's parent company and the Environmental Protection Agency. Appalachian Power announced this week that it has awarded $2.1 million in grants to help Amherst, Campbell, Montgomery, Bedford and Washington county schools purchase a total of nine electric school buses.

Judge rejects Virginia school district's attempt to stop moms from distributing purportedly 'sensitive' docs

A Virginia judge has rejected Fairfax County Public School's (FCPS) attempt to block two moms from disseminating the results of public information requests, which the county says contains "sensitive and legally protected information." According to the Fairfax Times, FCPS threatened Debra Tisler with legal action if she didn't return the documents.

Caroline County Public Schools hosting bus driver hiring event, $750 sign-on bonus incentive

Riverbend High School students held a protest Wednesday morning against a move to purge library shelves of books some consider offensive. "It's ignorance that causes bad choices, not knowledge" read a sign held by one student, and another read "We trust our librarians."

WJCC School Board Approves School Calendar Changes, Addresses Teacher Burnout Concerns | Williamsburg Yorktown Daily

WILLIAMSBURG - The Williamsburg-James City County (WJCC) School Board voted to approve changes to the 2021-2022 school calendar that would change the additional virtual learning days to teacher work collaboration days/student holidays. Jan. 27 and March 4 will now be student holidays rather than virtual learning days, giving teachers collaborative planning time.
