2022 VSBA Conference on Education, July 19, 2022 at the Hilton Richmond Hotel & Spa at Short Pump

Join school division leaders from across Virginia at the 37th annual VSBA Conference on Education. Attendees will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of mini-workshops which highlight successful practices in Virginia’s school divisions. Participants will leave with many great insights and practical ideas. After the roundtable presentations, attendees will break into regional meetings to discuss pertinent issues coming up for their particular regions.

5 Richmond-area elementary schools win thousands in Papa John's contest

HENRICO, Va. (WWBT) - Four Henrico County elementary schools and one Chesterfield County elementary school were awarded thousands of dollars from Papa John's Dollars4Dough4.0 competition. These schools achieved this by reaching at least 250 Papa John's orders from teachers and students during the school year and having the highest percentage of participation based on student count.

When students returned to in-person learning at Herndon High School in Fairfax County, Virginia, they were more engrossed in technology than they were before the pandemic, Principal Liz Noto said. New RPS teachers to earn $51,182 annually; bus drivers will earn $23 per hour

Starting pay for Richmond schoolteachers will top $50,000 for the first time after July 1. At the same time, bus operators, still in short supply, will see their wages jump to $23 an hour, with newly hired drivers with commercial driving licenses receiving a $3,500 hiring bonus as well.

Community weighs in on MCPS superintendent search

The process for eventually finding Montgomery County Public Schools' next superintendent cleared its latest step earlier this week with a series of four public forums and 17 focus group meetings that were organized to gather community feedback. The gatherings were run by a pair of consultants with GR Recruiting, the firm MCPS is paying $20,000 to help with its superintendent search.

Harrisonburg schools mourning loss of Smithland Elementary teacher

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) - Harrisonburg City Public Schools is mourning the tragic loss of a Smithland Elementary School teacher. 37-year-old Stephanie Van Nortwick died on June 9 at UVA Hospital in Charlottesville after a car accident on June 7. According to the Smithland Elementary website, Van Nortwick taught fifth grade.

PWCS Appoints Deputy Superintendent | Prince William Living

Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) has appointed Carol E. Flenard, Ed.D., as Deputy Superintendent. Dr. Flenard joins PWCS from Spotsylvania County Public Schools, where she most recently served as interim superintendent since January 2022. Prior to that role, she served as deputy superintendent/chief academic officer for Spotsylvania County Public Schools since 2012.

Chesterfield School Board considering $836 million operating budget

The Chesterfield County School Board is meeting Tuesday to vote on the adoption of an $836 million operating budget, a decision critical to ensuring funding is available on July 1 for the upcoming year. The vote will be divided into two parts: voting on the budget the Board of Supervisors approved on April 6 and adopting the updated revenue plans finally underway after state budget delays.
