Fauquier School Board approves bonuses for staff after supervisors threaten to deny funding request

Concerned about the possibility the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors may refuse its request to fund teacher and staff bonuses, the School Board approved a motion Wednesday that would award bonuses up to $780 - a lower amount than was initially promised by the School Board - using state and local funds from the fiscal 2023 budget.

Gov. Glenn Youngkin rolled out a budget plan Thursday that includes $1 billion in tax cuts for Virginia residents and businesses, telling the General Assembly to "buckle up" because his administration wants the state to "start going faster and getting more done."

Virginia Highlands Community College (VHCC) students who earn associates degrees in computer science, exercise science or education can now directly transfer to the University of Virginia's College at Wise (UVA Wise) to complete a bachelor's degree. The streamlined admissions policy is the result of an agreement between both educational institutions to increase opportunities for high-quality college education in far Southwest Virginia.

BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - The Botetourt Technical Education Center is receiving a grant to expand its welding program and help educate more skilled laborers in the area. Lynchburg City Schools proposing 'aggressive' raises for teachers, classified employees

Lynchburg City Schools administrators are proposing an "aggressive" salary increase plan ahead of the upcoming fiscal year 2023-24 budget discussions, Superintendent Crystal Edwards shared with the school board this week. The superintendent's proposal, the "15 50 Plan" covers increases in teacher salaries, bringing starting salaries up to $50,000 from $43,469.
