Radford schools, Carilion and United Way launching kindergarten readiness program

Radford City Schools announced Wednesday a new partnership program with United Way and Carilion Clinic that will help preschool-aged children prepare for kindergarten. The Kinder Camp program is designed to help students get a leg up before their first day at McHarg Elementary School.

Superintendent of Montgomery County schools terminated

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - The Montgomery County School Board voted Thursday night to terminate the contract of Superintendent Mark Miear without cause. According to the district, the termination was "for reasons discussed in their recent closed session meeting and under the terms decided upon during that meeting."

Norfolk board approves raises for teachers in 2023 budget; rejects facility use plan

The budget will go to Norfolk City Council for final approval. NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The Norfolk School Board approved a $376.7-million operating budget for 2023 during its Wednesday meeting. Included in the budget are seven possible bonuses to attract teachers, an increase in starting pay for bus drivers and pay raises for all district employees across the board.

Bristol, Virginia Public Schools consolidation project delayed

Williamsburg-James City County school board approves $96.9 million budget ahead of state budget approval

The Williamsburg-James City County School Board unanimously approved its proposed fiscal year 2022-23 budget at its Tuesday night meeting. The $96.9 million budget focuses heavily on increasing eligible teachers' salaries by 7%, hiring additional staff members, matching health insurance costs and making several capital improvements to division structures.

COVID-19 cases continue to decline in Albemarle Co. schools

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Albemarle County schools have seen a decrease in COVID-19 case numbers over the past two weeks, which coincides with the time the mask mandate was lifted. Though in this case, correlation is not causation. "Even prior to that two-week span, we were experiencing a downward trend in our case counts," ACPS COVID-19 Coordinator Eileen Gomez said.

Prince William County School Board votes to adopt $80 million budget
