Louisa County recognizes MVPs

Each Friday, Louisa County Public Schools Superintendent gets to deliver good news to four classrooms across the division. Members of the Louisa community submit nominations. A committee oversees 400 nominations and narrows that down to four who exemplify the MVP spirit.

Fredericksburg school division hoping for March groundbreaking for new middle school

Fredericksburg City Public Schools is working toward a March groundbreaking for the new middle school. Deputy superintendent Matt Eberhardt provided an update on the $77 million project to the School Board during its first regular meeting of the year.

Spotsy School Board member denied protective order against constituent

A Spotsylvania County School Board member's attempt to obtain a protective order against one of her harshest critics was denied Wednesday by a judge. Dawn Shelley was seeking legal restraint against county resident Roy Searles, who Shelley said has been harassing her through emails and other methods.

RPS Superintendent proposes $28.3 million increase in funding

Richmond Public Schools Superintendent has proposed a new budget for the upcoming fiscal year and plans to ask for an additional $28.3 million in funding, up from last year's $200.3 million appropriation. With an expected increase of $6 million from the state and $2 million remaining from last year, the proposed revenue increase represents $35.3 million.

Virginia schools receive $15 million grant to expand mental health services

State Superintendent Jillian Balow announced that seven school divisions will receive funding through a five-year, $15 million federal grant awarded to the Virginia Department of Education in support of Governor Youngkin’s initiative to expand behavioral and mental health services for students.

Student Hospitalized After Vicious Fight at Virginia High School

A vicious fight caught on camera inside of a Northern Virginia high school sent one student to the hospital with a concussion, and parents are demanding safety improvements. The fighting at Riverbend High School began before class Tuesday morning. Several students are seen throwing punches.
