Richmond School Board hires chief operations officer, chief wellness officer | The Richmond School Board voted in a closed session on Monday night to hire a chief wellness officer and chief operating officer for the school system. The decision comes after five School Board members in February looked to eliminate the positions of the district's chief operating officer and the chief wellness officer from the upcoming budget. | | |
MCPS rolling out virtual 'thank-you' cards | CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) - Montgomery County Public Schools is making it easy to say "thank you" to educators. The school district has created virtual thank-you cards that can be sent to any staff member in MCPS. The virtual cards can be customized with a message and sent directly to a staff member through email. | | |
UMW, Stafford County schools awarded planning grant for lab school | The University of Mary Washington and Stafford County Public Schools have been awarded a $200,000 grant from the Virginia Department of Education to begin planning for a lab school to focus on computer and data science. | | |
Lynchburg City Schools and One Community, One Voice partner for reading program for kindergarteners | Lynchburg City Schools and One Community, One Voice are partnering for a pilot program in three elementary schools, aimed at promoting reading readiness among division kindergarteners. Loudoun School Board Fires Ziegler | Following a two-hour closed session to discuss the special grand jury's report on Loudoun County Public Schools administration's handling of two sexual assaults by the same student, the School Board voted unanimously and without public discussion Tuesday to fire Superintendent Scott Ziegler immediately and without cause. | | |
Fredericksburg School Board passes new instructional materials policy | The Fredericksburg School Board on Monday passed a new policy that will ensure parental notification of instructional materials with sexually explicit content. 2023 VSBA Capital Conference, January 30-31, 2023
This year’s two-day Capital Conference will kick off with a budget and economic outlook for 2023 with the latest update on the Commonwealth’s financial picture. After the budget presentation there will be a conversation between Former Virginia House of Delegate Chris Saxman and Dr. Bob Holsworth with their perspectives on the landscape of Virginia politics in 2023 and beyond. Following this session, attendees will hear from VSBA’s own, J.T. Kessler and Stacy Haney on the happenings at the Capitol for the 2023 Virginia General Assembly.
