Richmond School Board votes down motion to scrap division's curriculum | The Richmond School Board voted 5-4 Tuesday night to defeat an effort to scrap the RPS curriculum as students prepare to head back to school. Superintendent Jason Kamras said such a "tectonic" change would cause upheaval for the city's public schools as students prepare to head back to class next week. | | |
Manassas schools to remain in current space | Manassas City Public Schools is abandoning a tentative plan to renovate and move its central office staff into the current Manassas police headquarters once the new Grant Avenue police headquarters building is complete. Instead, the School Board and staff have agreed to purchase the commercial building it's currently in, with long-term plans to use more space in the building for career and technical education instruction. | | |

Walker Governor's School. Governor Youngkin "fast-tracking" plan to reduce Virginia's teacher shortage | RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC)- Governor Glenn Youngkin said he is fast tracking a plan to reduce teacher shortages. It comes as some fear recently approved pay raises were too little, too late. The Virginia Education Association (VEA) found, as of Aug. 11, nearly 10,500 job openings were posted by school divisions statewide, many of which were teaching positions. | | |
Here are the Hampton Roads schools that will continue to offer free meals to students | All schools offered free breakfast and lunch to K-12 students in the state for the last two years, but those policies created to support families during the pandemic have expired. This means that families who do not qualify for free or reduced lunches will have to pay for meals this school year. | | |
Davis named principal at Halifax County High School - SoVaNOW: Home of The News & Record and The Mecklenburg Sun | Kelvin Davis, an associate principal at Halifax County High School, has been named the school's principal by the Halifax County School Board. Trustees approved the appointment during a special meeting Monday night in which personnel matters were discussed in closed session. Davis will earn an annual salary of $93,586 in his new position. | | |
All Nelson County public schools fully accredited | Applause greeted Nelson County Public Schools Superintendent Amanda Hester's announcement at the August school board meeting - all division schools have achieved accreditation. The Virginia Board of Education (VDOE) evaluates Virginia public schools academic performance every year and schools' VDOE ratings in a number of indicator categories determine their accreditation status. | | |
Fairfax Co. schools never got email about counselor's arrest - WTOP News | Emails from the Chesterfield County, Virginia, police department aimed at informing Fairfax County Public Schools that a middle school counselor had been arrested and charged with soliciting prostitution from a minor were sent to faulty email addresses, police said Monday. | | | |
