Virginia's K-12 enrollment still not yet back to pre-pandemic levels

Enrollment in Virginia's public K-12 schools, which took a massive nosedive in 2020 due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, increased this fall for the first time since then but has not yet bounced back to pre-pandemic levels. The state reported 1,263,342 students enrolled in Virginia's public schools this fall.

Robotics teams advance to state championship in LEGO Robotics

Three teams from Martinsville City Public Schools (MCPS) advanced to state championships in LEGO robotics on Nov. 5. The elementary and middle school students gathered at Martinsville Middle School to compete in the regional qualifier tournament for the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) LEGO Robotics Challenge.

'Taking back the bus stops': Nonprofit's volunteers walk Norfolk students home in effort to curb gun violence

Volunteers from New Virginia Majority have spent the past month walking students home from bus stops in the St. Paul's community as part of a pilot program to curb gun violence in the area after parents reported hearing gunfire between 3 and 5 p.m. - around the same time children are returning home from school.

Richmond school district to rename three schools named for Confederates

The Richmond School Board on Monday evening voted 5-3 to rename three schools that are named for Confederates: John B. Cary Elementary, Ginter Park Elementary and Binford Middle.

The Purple Star designation is awarded to military-friendly schools that have demonstrated a major commitment to students and families connected to our nation's military.

Local pupil expenditures lag behind state | Carroll News

The Carroll County Board of Education received word per pupil expenditures from local funds continue to trail the State average and this gap for the period between fiscal year 2004 to fiscal year 2021, shows no signs of narrowing. Thomas Jefferson High School project getting a ride into space - WTOP News

Students at Fairfax County, Virginia's, Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology have a lot riding on Saturday's planned launch of a SpaceX rocket.
