Outside review finds no intent in Fairfax Schools National Merit delays

An investigation into why some Fairfax County Public Schools were late to notify students they had received National Merit commendations found the delays were not intentional, the school system's superintendent reported Wednesday.

Elk Hill meeting mental health needs of students in Staunton, Waynesboro, Augusta County

STAUNTON - Walking through the halls of Elk Hill School, you will see the word "Love" painted on one of the walls. It seems like the appropriate message for what this school offers its students. "Every student comes here with some sort of trauma, some sort of either behavioral disability or an emotional disability," said Jason Hite, head of the Staunton school.

14 books to be removed from Spotsylvania County school libraries

Fourteen books, including two by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Toni Morrison, will be "excluded" from Spotsylvania County school libraries, superintendent Mark Taylor has decided. Taylor announced his decision in a memo dated March 28 and addressed to Maria Ramadane and Laurie Gallup, the director and assistant director of teaching and learning for the school division.

Lawsuit says LCPS board unfairly removed special education student from Leesburg school

A $1.1 million lawsuit against the Loudoun Public Schools board and former Virginia Superintendent Jillian Ballow alleges a special education sophomore student was removed from Loudoun County High School in Leesburg for 113 days last year due to purportedly false claims that he groped a female student and walked around school with a baseball bat.

Shenandoah County schools reconfigure southern campus
