Ty'Quan Graves, Danville's youngest school board member ever elected, tapped as chair

Ty'Quan Graves, who made history in 2018 for being the youngest school board trustee ever elected, was tapped to lead the board as chair Thursday evening. Tyrell Payne was elected as vice chair.

Youngkin administration pushes school choice through education savings accounts

Gov. Youngkin's administration is continuing efforts to expand school choice by pushing legislation to allocate a portion of per-pupil state funding to a savings account to spend on private school tuition or other education expenses.

Richmond School Board votes to rename George Wythe High School

The Richmond School Board voted to include George Wythe High School in the ongoing efforts to change the names of schools named for enslavers or Confederates. The board voted in November to rename three schools, a move that prompted some opposition from board members citing costs.

Vacancies opening on Roanoke City School Board

The City Clerk's Office is accepting applications for two vacancies on the Roanoke City School Board. The vacancies are for three-year terms of office set to expire June 30, 2023. The three-year terms will begin July 1, 2023 - June 30, 2026.

Two of the oldest Charlottesville City Schools have new names as of January 5. Clark is now Summit Elementary and Venable is now Trailblazers Elementary after a CCS school board vote.
