Aviation company helps build students' interest in aviation | BRIDGEWATER - Ready for takeoff. Staunton High School technical education students took an all-day field trip Thursday to Dynamic Aviation, a privately-owned aircraft company, to participate in the Nextgen Aviators program. The school's career coach, Brett Peters, collaborated with the technical center's engineering class to go to the aviation facility. | | |
Sexually Explicit Content Notification Policy Heads to School Board Vote | Policy 5055, the proposed requirement for advance parental notification of sexually explicit school materials is set for a final round of debate and a vote by the School Board on Nov. 29. Supreme Court won't review discrimination suit against Fairfax County schools | The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to review a discrimination lawsuit against Fairfax County Public Schools. The case stems from a complaint by a former Oakton High School student who said she was sexually assaulted by another male student while on a band trip in 2017. | | |
Buchanan County supervisor proposes make-up year for Virginia students | In light of a scathing report showing that Virginia students have been underperforming in recent years, a Buchanan County supervisor is proposing to allow K-12 students who have fallen behind during the COVID-19 pandemic an optional make-up year to improve their academic test scores and athletic performance. | | |
Supreme Court turns away Virginia school's appeal of sex-assault case | FALLS CHURCH - The U.S. Supreme Court won't hear an appeal from a Virginia school board that says it shouldn't be held liable for the alleged sexual assault of a student by a classmate on a band trip. PCPS to receive grant for security equipment | By DAVID GRAVELY Pulaski County Public Schools is one of several Virginia schools to receive a portion of $12 million in grants for security updates. Pittsylvania County grant to fund 10 new school resource officers | Pittsylvania County signed off on a grant earlier this week to fund 10 more school resource officers. Now comes the hard part: filling those positions. Williamsburg-area teachers call for raises, say bonus not enough to pay for rising prices | Teachers and other workers with Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools held a rally before this week's school board meeting to call for better pay on a night when the board approved a bonus for employees. About 60 people, many dressed in red, showed up at James Blair Middle School's gym on Tuesday asking for a 10% pay raise for all WJCC school workers. | | |

2023 VSBA Capital Conference, January 30-31, 2023
This year’s two-day Capital Conference will kick off with a budget and economic outlook for 2023 with the latest update on the Commonwealth’s financial picture. After the budget presentation there will be a conversation between Former Virginia House of Delegate Chris Saxman and Dr. Bob Holsworth with their perspectives on the landscape of Virginia politics in 2023 and beyond. Following this session, attendees will hear from VSBA’s own, J.T. Kessler and Stacy Haney on the happenings at the Capitol for the 2023 Virginia General Assembly.
