New school construction grant will roll out in early 2023

A new state-run grant for school construction looks set to get rolling in early 2023. Localities will be able to apply for state money to help build, renovate, or update school buildings. The General Assembly has allocated about half a billion dollars for the new competitive grants.

Future of Maury High under discussion as Norfolk announces public hearings on school needs

NORFOLK - Norfolk Public Schools will hold public hearings throughout December to hear about facilities, academic programs and the upcoming budget for the division. Henrico tightens school security following multiple gun incidents

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- Two Henrico County students were charged with crimes after police said the students brought guns to school. Henrico Police reported two separate gun-related situations at Highland Springs High School on Tuesday. One teenage student was detained and officials recovered a gun from him.

Waynesboro Schools not close to capacity, but need high school upgrade

Waynesboro Schools Superintendent Jeff Cassell says the school system is not bursting at the seams with capacity issues, and he does not foresee that happening in the next few years. Cassell, who briefed Waynesboro City Council on the capital program for the school system this past week, said the current enrollment of 3,037 is just over a thousand students less than the capacity of 4,074.
