Virginia relying more heavily on provisional licenses to fill teacher shortages - Virginia Mercury

As teacher shortages continue in Virginia, the state is attempting to stave off further educational impacts by granting more provisional licenses. The Virginia Education Association, the state's teachers union, has said the exodus of teachers, including highly qualified educators, is connected to low wages, increased workloads and politicized work environments.

Isle of Wight County's School Board is still looking for a multimillion-dollar funding increase from county taxpayers for the coming school year, but not as big of an increase as Superintendent Theo Cramer requested.

In the wake of the Nashville school shooting, Halifax County Public Schools have taken extra safety precautions to address potential threats within schools. This Thursday, a potential threat surfaced at Halifax County Middle School which stemmed from a student's group chat messages on Snapchat, according to Superintendent of Schools Amy Huskin.

School Board Revises Three Policies from Special Grand Jury Recommendation

The School Board on March 28 amended three polices that were recommended for revision by their attorney in response to a special grand jury's recommendations in December. The recommendations came from the jury's investigation into the school district's handling of repeated sexual assaults at Loudoun high schools.
