Va. Gov. Youngkin faces second suit over teacher tip line

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin is facing a second lawsuit over his administration's repeated refusals to release records related to an email tip line he set up for parents to report school employees who teach "divisive" subjects. Nonprofit ethics watchdog group American Oversight and the law firm Ballard Spahr filed the suit Monday in Arlington County Circuit Court.

Virginia's teacher shortage is fueling big spending on recruitment and retention - Virginia Mercury

In a meeting last week, Spotsylvania County Superintendent Kelly Guempel described the division's staffing needs as "severe," with 114 vacant teaching positions a week before the start of the school year. A few days earlier, Fairfax County Superintendent Michelle Reid informed parents the district was "working hard" to overcome a teacher shortage that's left roughly 3% of classrooms unstaffed ahead of the fall semester.

Some Arlington 4th, 5th graders fell behind in literacy last school year | WTOP News

More fourth and fifth grade students in Arlington needed literacy help at the end of the last school year than at the beginning, according to data from the Virginia school system. Stafford education group requests response to convocation that sent 8 to hospital

The Stafford Education Association is requesting that the school division make restitution payments to staff following Friday's convocation event, during which 80 individuals required medical treatment due to soaring temperatures. The association released a statement from its executive board on its Twitter page Monday afternoon, requesting that the division pay $200 in restitution to all full-time employees and $100 to all part-time employees by Dec.
