Seibert to represent region's interests on Virginia Board of Education
ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - Dr. Alan Seibert says he looks forward to representing the interests of our region on the Virginia Board of Education. Seibert is the former Superintendent of Salem City Public Schools, and he currently serves as Constituent Services and Government Relations Officer for Roanoke City Public Schools.
Bedford Co. School Board approves budget, including pay raise
BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) - On Tuesday evening, the Bedford County School Board approved revisions to the district's budget for 2022-2023, which includes "much deserved" raises for all employees, according to school officials.
Amanda Hester steps into NCPS superintendent position
Amanda Hester was sworn in as superintendent of Nelson County Public Schools on June 28 by clerk of Nelson County Circuit Court Lisa Bryant. Her appointment begins July 1. Hester previously served as Louisa County Public Schools' assistant superintendent for instruction and brings almost 19 years of experience in public school teaching, including as Spotsylvania High School principal, according to a Nelson County Public Schools news release from March.
Spotsylvania school division paying more in security and legal representation
Spotsylvania County Public Schools paid just under $2,000 for security at a School Board meeting in April and is regularly paying more for meeting security than in previous years. The division also paid more for general legal representation the first quarter of this year than in the first quarter of the preceding three years.
Montgomery County supervisors approve request for more school resource officers
The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors approved a measure this week that a top local law enforcement official said will finally ensure a police presence at each of the county schools outside of Christiansburg and Blacksburg. The board, via a 6-0 vote last week, approved the transfer of $150,000 to provide two additional school resource officers to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.
The Albemarle County School Board has appointed two new administrators to principal posts at Henley Middle and Hollymead Elementary schools, the division announced Friday. The new principals will begin their transitions immediately and relocate to their new schools by the middle of August, according to the news release.
The Harvest Youth Board has funded a $5,000 grant to QuickStart Tennis of Central Virginia that brings the Racquets for Reading program to Martinsville and Henry County Public Schools.
