Franklin County Superintendent Cobbs to leave job

ROCKY MOUNT - Franklin County Public Schools is preparing to look for a new superintendent. Bernice Cobbs has decided not to enter into another contract the school system, so that requires the start of a search process, county School Board Chairman Jeff Worley said at Monday's board meeting.

CNU program brings real research experience to Newport News high schoolers

NEWPORT NEWS - When Mic Platt attended a seminar at Christopher Newport University last year, he was struck by the genuine excitement he felt from the high school students presenting their research findings. ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) - Monday night, the Rockingham County Public School Board met for the first time since Superintendent Dr. Oskar Scheikl announced his resignation at the end of his 2023 contract. On Monday's agenda, two board members were nominated to begin the search to fill Scheikl's position.

DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ) - Danville is recognizing the progress its schools have made within the past year. Danville Public Schools held a State of the District event Tuesday morning at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research. They announced they have added five new air conditioned buses in their goal of having AC on all their buses.

Why some school systems are still struggling with bus delays, routes

ROANOKE, Va. - It's been almost two months since most Southwest Virginia schools began their new year. Issues with school transportation persist, and staffing shortages are to blame. On Tuesday, almost 30 routes were delayed in Roanoke City - some by an hour, according to the school's website 10 News was told a "data issue with the mass communication system" is why notifications about the delays were delayed.

New Ombuds Introduced at Equity Committee Meeting - Loudoun Now

Carey Williams, the newly hired ombuds for Loudoun County Public Schools, introduced herself and shared more about her role during the Oct. 6 meeting of the division's Equity Committee. Williams was hired Aug. 23 by the division to serve as a neutral resource to families, employees, and community members to help work out issues of fairness, equity and consistency.
