It's official: Virginia's high school athletes can soon profit from their name, image and likeness

The VHSL's adoption of NIL legislation follows a similar ruling by the NCAA last year for college athletes and adds Virginia to a growing list of states that allow high school athletes to profit from NIL deals. At least 28 other states had approved legislation by last month, according to businessofcollegesports.com.

Rocktown High School principal announced, progress still on track for end of year finish date

Virginia will not require elected school boards

A proposal that could have led to fewer appointed school boards in Virginia by allowing voters to decide by referendum if their local board should be elected died in the Senate during the most recent session of the Virginia General Assembly. Senators killed House Bill 1574 with an 11-27 vote.

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - Wednesday is National Bike and Roll to School Day. Students in our hometowns were encouraged to walk, bike or roll to school, and some students at Highland Park Elementary celebrated by doing just that. The principal said it's a great way to encourage a healthy lifestyle.

School officials say recent Montgomery County tax vote 'out of spite,' 'foolish'

CHRISTIANSBURG - Several school board members, as well as the superintendent, took aim Tuesday at the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors' decision last week to further reduce a school funding request. One school board member said she even viewed the decision as an act of retaliation due to previous disagreements certain supervisors have had with Montgomery County Public Schools officials.
