SWVA schools facing funding cutoff for part of mental health and counseling services

NORTON, Va. - At least three Southwest Virginia school districts are struggling with unexpected news from the commonwealth of Virginia this month. Three superintendents - Bristol, Virginia's Keith Perrigan, Norton City Schools' Gina Wohlford and Wise County's Mike Goforth - are trying to find replacement mental health services after some community providers in the region are canceling their partnerships with more than half of the region's school divisions.

Over 30 Henrico school playgrounds need repairs or replacements

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - 32 Henrico County Public School playgrounds are in need of repairs and replacements. Sandston, Seven Pines, Ashe, Laburnum and Longan Elementary are just a few schools needing new playgrounds. Henrico schools' Chief of Operations, Lenny Pritchard, says these renovations were put on pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic and supply chain issues.

No injuries reported in wreck involving Halifax County school bus

The South Boston Police Department responded to a two-vehicle wreck involving a Halifax County Public Schools bus on Huell Matthews Highway near the bridge shortly after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. The investigating officer Officer S. Kenney said no students were on board the school bus and no one was injured in the wreck.

2023 VSBA Capital Conference, January 30-31, 2023

This year’s two-day Capital Conference will kick off with a budget and economic outlook for 2023 with the latest update on the Commonwealth’s financial picture. After the budget presentation there will be a conversation between Former Virginia House of Delegate Chris Saxman and Dr. Bob Holsworth with their perspectives on the landscape of Virginia politics in 2023 and beyond. Following this session, attendees will hear from VSBA’s own, J.T. Kessler and Stacy Haney on the happenings at the Capitol for the 2023 Virginia General Assembly.
