It's not every day you see high school students filling your medications at the pharmacy.

GROTTOES, Va. (WHSV) - On Wednesday students at South River Elementary School in Grottoes got a visit from the Rockingham-Harrisonburg SPCA before their winter break. Students had been bringing in donations for the RHSPCA for the last month. On Wednesday the school welcomed a volunteer from the shelter to collect all the donations and talk with students about the SPCA's work.

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - A man was arrested Wednesday morning, accused of stealing a school bus. Matthew Heuple, 34 of Hurt, is charged with one count of grand larceny and one count of driving a motor vehicle after forfeiture of his license. He is in the Pittsylvania County jail.

INDEPENDENCE - The Grayson County School Board has approved an agreement between the school system and the Grayson County Board of Supervisors, offering use of facilities in exchange for financial assistance to complete the construction, renovation and rehabilitation of the Grayson County High School and related facilities.

WINCHESTER - Handley High School's Jeff Keller has been named the 2023 Teacher of the Year for Winchester Public Schools. Keller, who was leading an Advanced Placement U.S. History class on Wednesday morning when school system officials visited his classroom and surprised him with the award, has been teaching at Handley for 15 years.

The Indian River High School auditorium was nearly at capacity when Chesapeake City Schools celebrated its annual Teacher of the Year awards ceremony Dec. 1. Themed "To Infinity and Beyond: Our TOY Story" the event focused on shining a light on all of the teachers of the year from each of the city's 48 schools

In kindergarten teacher Cristina Lynn's backyard, a flock of 12 chickens - the grown-up chicks from an egg-hatching project her kindergarten class held last year - live in a coop. HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) - At Massanutten Technical Center (MTC), every day feels like a holiday, thanks to MTC's resident 'Elf on the Shelf' Mr. Tinker Claus, also known to students and staff as Assistant Director Chris Dalton.

Nearly four months and 110,000 airline miles later, Sparty returned home to Robert E. Aylor Middle School in Frederick County on Tuesday morning. The stuffed spartan - a nod to the school's Spartans mascot - arrived riding in a homemade United Airlines plane attached to a skateboard.

High-tech security sensors are coming to Osbourn High School in Manassas. The city's School Board voted last week to award a four-year, $435,735.39 contract to New Jersey-based Alliance Technology Group for security sensors to be placed at the building's main entrance and one side entrance.
