Virginia school systems face deadline to spend federal relief funds | Virginia school districts had until Friday to spend nearly $215 million of federal relief funding related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Board readies new bid for CCHS renovations | Carroll News | Carroll County School Superintendent Dr. Mark Burnette informed the school board at its September 13 meeting the division intends to put out to re-bid a modified construction project at Carroll County High School. District 1 school board member Tommy Lansberry passes away at age 76 | Education | | PVN staff report LURAY, Sept. 26 ― Tommy Lansberry, District 1 representative on the Page County School Board, passed away last Thursday at age 76 after an extended battle with an inoperable brain tumor. The School Board publicly announced Lansberry's health issues in June after a noticeable, extended absence in the District 1 seat. | | |
Hanover teacher prep program aims to remove barriers from acquiring teaching license | For 31 years, Alan Myers worked as an IT executive at International Paper Co. He took an early retirement this summer, and decided he wanted a second career "with purpose." He now works as a teacher for Hanover County Public Schools. | | |
Smyth schools raise awareness of childhood cancer | She lost her daughter to cancer and doesn't want anyone else to experience that pain. Brittany Shuler, of Marion, honors her daughter Marissa's memory by promoting recognition of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September. Shuler, who works in intervention at Marion Elementary School, came to the August meeting of Smyth County School Board to share her message and encourage the schools to recognize the awareness month. | | |

Bedford County schools implemented the intervention design specialist - IDS - model in 2019. Tree falls on Newport News bus during storm, no injuries reported | A tree fell on a Newport News bus Friday as stormy weather moved through the region.
