Clean power: Wise County, Norton students develop solar panel cleaner prototype

Five students at the Wise County Career and Technical Center went to Richmond in December as part of a statewide seminar on solving energy and climate issues. The team brought their research to the Throwing Solar Shade event at the Virginia Science Museum.

County School Board Approves Bid For Multi-Million BHS Addition

At a Monday night meeting, the Rockingham County School Board took steps to alleviate crowding at Broadway High School over the coming years. After soliciting bids for the addition, the contract was awarded to low bidder, Broadway-based Lantz Construction Co., for the amount of $12,741,500.

Caroline County School Board approves budget request

The Caroline County School Board on Monday approved a budget request for next fiscal year that would raise staff salaries by between 5.5% and 14%. The total $59.2 million operating budget for fiscal year 2024, which begins July 1, calls for $4.8 million in new local funding from the Board of Supervisors.

18 apply for Washington school superintendent

ABINGDON, Va. - The Washington County Virginia School Board has received 18 applications in its search for a new superintendent, according to a written statement. Current, long-time Superintendent Brian Ratliff has announced plans to retire later this year. The board enlisted the aid of the Virginia School Boards Association in seeking applicants for the job.
