Va. schools chief says her office is reviewing allegations against Loudoun superintendent

Virginia Superintendent of Public Instruction Jillian Balow says her office is reviewing charges of misconduct brought by a parent group against Loudoun County Public Schools Superintendent Scott A. Ziegler. Balow wrote a letter to the parent group, known as Fight For Schools, on March 15 in which she announced the review.

Courtland High School graduate talks about pending lawsuit against Spotsylvania School Board

Four days before her lawsuit against the Spotsylvania County School Board will be heard in court, Makaila Keyes, 19, said she was feeling "pretty anxious and nervous" but also "very excited to see where things go."

Attendee at Prince William School Board meetings faces disorderly, trespassing charges

Prince William County school officials are pressing charges against a Woodbridge man for trying to disrupt two recent School Board meetings. On Feb. 18, two misdemeanor warrants for disorderly conduct and one for trespassing were issued against 29-year old Nathan Archer, according to court records.

Supervisors, school board members continue to negotiate funding for teacher pay raises

Two county supervisors have signaled their willingness to work with the school board to reallocate funds for limited pay raises in the school division as budget negotiations enter the final stretch. Supervisor Chris Granger (Center District) floated a proposal late last week that includes several moving parts.

Alexandria school board seeks 1-year extension for resource officers | WTOP News

Schools in Alexandria, Virginia, may keep school resource officers stationed on campus for an additional year while next steps for the program are examined. The city's school board is expected to ask the city council and mayor to fund a one-year extension of the current school resource officer program this week, which the board says will allow a working group time to collaborate and form a recommendation about the future of police in schools.

Montgomery Co. supervisors ask questions about superintendent firing

CHRISTIANSBURG - The firing of Superintendent Mark Miear is sparking speculation, including from some Montgomery County supervisors who questioned a school official about the situation Monday night. The decision to end Miear's more than six-year tenure with the district was touched on during a Board of Supervisors meeting, which convened primarily to go over elements of the recommended budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1.

Study suggests former hospital building not ideal for city school; joint public hearing set for Thursday

A feasibility study conducted by Moseley Architects on transforming the former Mary Washington Hospital into an elementary school or a middle school suggests that neither is ideal. The study was released ahead of a joint public hearing between Fredericksburg City Schools and the City Council on Thursday at James Monroe High School at 7 p.m.

Roanoke City Schools prepares for RCPS+ fifth-quarter instruction with added programs

ROANOKE, Va. - Roanoke City Schools summer program, RCPS+ is being planned for later this year. During Tuesday's school board meeting, school leaders reviewed what changes will be made to their fifth quarter of instruction. Additions will include classes on computer basics, preparation for the WISE test and certified reading specialists on staff.
