WPS awarded almost $6M to increase student access to mental health services

WINCHESTER - Winchester Public Schools (WPS) has been awarded a grant totaling nearly $5.9 million over five years from the U.S. Department of Education, according to a WPS media release. The Mental Health Service Professionals Demonstration grant will fund WISH: Winchester Investing in Student Mental Health, a program that will expand the division's capacity to offer mental health services to its 4,277 students, starting this month.

Frederick County schools selects assistant superintendent of administration

Warren County Public Schools' director of human resources and communication has been named Frederick County Public Schools' next assistant superintendent of administration. Shane Goodwin, who will receive an annual salary of $176,000, will begin his new role within the division on June 1. The School Board named Goodwin to the post at its Tuesday meeting.

Board finalizes superintendent qualifications

BRISTOL, Va. - City School Board members finalized their primary qualifications for the division's next superintendent on Monday so ads for the position can begin appearing this week. Carroll Public Schools restricting students' access The Carroll County Public School's (CCPS) leadership team, in conjunction with teachers and parents, notified the public via Facebook on April 25 it is currently developing a new cell phone policy for students that would significantly restrict student access to cell phones during instructional time while not completely eliminating cell phone use in schools.

RPS superintendent horrified by exchange between teacher and Spanish-speaking student

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - The head of Richmond Public Schools is apologizing for what he calls a "horrific" exchange between a Boushall Middle School teacher and a sixth grader.
