Richmond Public Schools School Board attempts to take next steps for budget, falls short of resolution

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - Richmond Public Schools (RPS) School Board tried to take the next steps for the RPS budget that was approved in late February, but fell short of a resolution Monday night.

Spotsylvania School Board chairman cancels special meeting

Spotsylvania County School Board Chair Kirk Twigg canceled Monday evening's meeting less than an hour before it was to begin, citing "lack of quorum," according to board members Dawn Shelley, Nicole Cole and Lorita Daniels.

Henry County Public Schools budget, with raises for staff and teachers, approved

The Henry County School Board convened Thursday night in the Summerlin Meeting Room for a special meeting with only one item on the agenda: the approval of the new budget. The meeting lasted 12 minutes and the budget was approved as presented with no changes.

School Survey Says Foreign Language, STEM Programs Most Appealing to Families - Loudoun Now

Loudoun parents are in favor of new language and information technology programs and academies being implemented in LCPS, according to a survey conducted by the division. The survey, distributed in February, included responses from 6,628 parents, who rated their levels of interest across a wide array of options.

Vandalism causes several bathroom closures at a Henrico high school

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WWBT) - Immediate changes are in place at Glen Allen High School due to a rise in vandalism in restrooms, according to administrators. In an email sent to families over the weekend, the principal said restrooms in four different hallways will be closed "effective immediately" and remain closed until future notice.

County schools' new budget reflects biggest bump in revenue in at least a decade - maybe ever. But will it stick?

The Prince William County School Board has unanimously approved a $1.5 billion budget for next school year that reflects the largest increase in state and local funding since at least since the Great Recession and possibly ever. But the plan relies on state and county officials to maintain their proposed budgets, which are still under debate.

MCPS officials mulling proposed raises

CHRISTIANSBURG - Montgomery County school officials are beginning to mull over ways to fund additional operational needs for the upcoming year. One proposed measure: an average pay increase of 5% for employees. The division would need to at least provide a 2.5% raise for the upcoming school year to be eligible for state dollars that would go toward pay bumps in 2024, according to recent discussions.
