Amherst school officials to appoint committee for input on library content review policy

Planning is underway for appointment of a committee that will advise the Amherst County School Board on a media selection policy for addressing concerns of sexually explicit content and instructional material in school libraries. The board discussed a potential media selection policy during its July 28 work session.

County School Division Will See New Principals This Fall

Turner Ashby High School, River Bend Elementary School, Cub Run Elementary School and South River Elementary School will have new principals this fall. Kenny Boyers, formerly the principal at Cub Run Elementary School, is now the principal of South River Elementary School. Sharon Martz is now the principal at Cub Run Elementary School.

Fairfax County Public Schools are offering a free meeting with a mental health professional to any student or school parent this summer. The program makes free mental wellness consulations available, as many students don't have access to the counselors they would normally talk to when they need help during the summer.

Lamanna named FCPS interim superintendent

WINCHESTER - After a 2½-hour closed session, the Frederick County School Board voted 4-3 Tuesday night to appoint John Lamanna as the school division's interim superintendent, effective Monday. Lamanna previously served on the School Board from 2002-2019 and was board chairman from 2007-10 and 2016-2019.
