King George High seniors cheered on by future graduates | The 43 members of the King George High School graduating class who attended King George Elementary take a victory lap, of sorts, at their old school on Friday during a "Senior Walk." More than 700 elementary school students were on hand to cheer and wave checkered flags for the older students, who once stood in their shoes, as part of the event's theme of "Life is a Highway." | | |

Alexandria City Schools Awarded $2M for Electric School Buses | Alexandria City Public Schools will soon buy 10 electric-powered school buses with more than $2 million in grant money. The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality awarded ACPS $2,325,000, which covers the cost difference to buy the electric buses instead of diesel-powered buses, the school system announced in a news release Monday. | | |

Bethel places at WHRO Great Computer Challenge | All five of the Bethel Elementary School teams competing in the 37th annual WHRO Great Computer Challenge on May 14 were recognized for their work in this virtual event. Awarded third places were the Graphic Design, Desktop Publishing, Internet Scavenger Hunt, and Scratch (block coding/programming) teams. County School Board To Discuss Parental Notification Of Student Names | A conversation during the Rockingham County School Board's May 9 meeting has led to the addition of an agenda item for Monday's meeting on parental notification about student names. At the last meeting, School Board member Matt Cross asked about the school division's policy for contacting parents if a student wants to be called by another name while at school. | | |
Virginia Beach high school student creates surfboard out of litter | VIRGINIA BEACH - Mallory Haske surfs nearly every day in the summer, and it really irks her to see trash in the water or on the beach. So when her English teacher at Salem High School assigned a "passion project," Haske came up with a creative idea that blended surfing and trash. | | |

School Board gives approval to agriculture courses | Washington County School Board approved adding two new agriculture courses at its Monday meeting.
