Richmond school buses damaged beyond repair in two-alarm fire | RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - A destructive, two-alarm fire, on Chamberlayne Avenue in Richmond's north side, fully consumed a vehicle maintenance facility for Richmond Public Schools. "It was a bunch of smoke coming out of the top of the building and I called 911 to ask them is anybody was in the building," said Cory Webber, an eyewitness who called 911. | | |
Hopewell Schools phone-free zone policy for middle, high school students | HOPEWELL, Va. (WWBT) - Hopewell City Schools said it would move to a phone-free zone policy for middle and high school students. The division said phones will not be out or used while at school and that the move is a step to "enhance student learning, culture, and safety at school." | | |

Roanoke City School Board extends superintendent's contract | ROANOKE, Va. - The Roanoke City School Board has approved an extension in the district's superintendent's contract. Superintendent Verletta White, who has been in the position since 2020, will now serve the district until 2026. Her original contract was set to end in 2024. | | |

Liberty High School Student Places 3rd at National Competition | At the recent 2022 National History Day competition, Sara Johnson, a rising senior at Liberty High School, placed third in the Senior Individual Performance category. School board approves budget after three failed motions | In what was anticipated to be a short budget work session to approve the final schools budget for fiscal year 2023, the Gloucester School Board members were deadlocked last Thursday night in the T.C. Walker Education Center Auditorium, resulting in three failed motions before a consensus was reached after nearly two and a half hours of discussion. | | |
Brown stepping down as ACHS principal to take central office position | Derrick Brown is stepping down as principal at Amherst County High School to become director of professional learning and student success for the division.
