Stafford superintendent presents budget request

Stafford County Public Schools is proposing a $24.2 million investment in improving staff salaries as part of its operating budget for next fiscal year. "We are a system of people, not things," division superintendent Thomas Taylor told the School Board on Tuesday evening.

The Franklin County School Board is beginning the process of hiring a new superintendent. First, it is seeking public input on qualifications. The board created this survey that will end Monday, February 6. There are hard copies available at each county school and at the school board office.

New Frederick County Public Schools superintendent appointed at crucial time for the division

George C. Hummer was named the 15th superintendent of Frederick County Public Schools on Tuesday night, closing a nearly seven-month search for the division's next leader. Hummer stood at the podium in the School Board meeting room and inked a contract that made the appointment official.

Bill mandating student reps on School Board dies in Richmond

A proposal to require all local School Boards in Virginia to contain a student member went down to defeat in a House of Delegates subcommittee Jan. 24. The measure - patroned by Del. Alfonso Lopez (D-Arlington-Fairfax) - would if passed have directed all School Boards that do not currently have a student to put in motion plans to add one.
