RPS becomes first school division in Virginia to elect union representative

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC)-Richmond Public Schools is the first school division to be represented by a union since the state's ban on labor unions was overturned last year. RPS teachers and staff voted over the weekend to elect the Richmond Education Association to serve as its union representative.

School Board To Discuss HHS2 Name Options At Work Session

The Harrisonburg City School Board will meet Tuesday for a work session where it will discuss the name of the new high school. This is likely the last meeting before the School Board approves a name at its May 3 meeting.

Recess coming to Fairfax Co. middle schools next year | WTOP News

Middle school students in Fairfax County, Virginia, will get a short daily recess period beginning next year. The school board voted Thursday night to update its student and staff health and wellness policy to allow for a 15-minute recess period every day. The change received unanimous support, with board member Megan McLaughlin not present for the vote.

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ) - The Lynchburg School Board is accepting applications for three seats set to be vacated June 30, according to the city. Residents interested in being on the board are asked to go to lynchburgva.gov/school-board to complete an online application.

Mechanicsville District School Board seat up for grabs

The Mechanicsville District seat on Hanover County's School Board is up for grabs and for those interested in taking it, the time to let the Board of Supervisors know is now. Mechanicsville's School Board seat has been occupied by Hanover native Sterling Daniel since March 2020, when he was appointed to fill in after the unexpected departure of former School Board member Roger Bourassa in December 2019.

Climate Action Kits gifted to ACPS students

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Children in Albemarle County Public Schools received a special surprise from the Community Climate Collaborative and Virginia Discovery Museum. Climate action kits are boxes with science projects inside. They also contain energy saving tips for parents. Students are encouraged to take them home and continue fostering their love for science outside of school hours.

Staunton city, school leaders reached a budget deal: Was this good news?

Lost in the apparent compromise in Staunton over schools funding is whether or not the kids really win in the end.

Staunton City Council and the Staunton School Board have come to a détente over a $624,113 funding gap, and while the numbers have been made to work, it seems like so much inside baseball, with the agreement being about moving this shell here, that shell there, and at the end of the day, look, all balanced.
