Update: Legislature split on governor's amendment to move Loudoun County School Board election to November

The Virginia Senate rejected the governor's amendment to move up the Loudoun County School Board Elections for all nine seats a year earlier to November after the House of Delegates accepted it during Wednesday's veto session in Richmond. The amendment passed in the House, 51-48, but failed 18-22 in the Senate after nearly an hour and half of deliberations between both chambers.

Prince William School Board again delays deadline for union to present signatures in organizing effort

The Prince William County School Board has once again moved the deadline for the county's teacher's union to present the signatures it collected in support of collective bargaining, this time saying the union has until May 4 to present its union cards for verification.

Grooms named county Teacher of the Year

Katrina Grooms, a 4th grade teacher at New London Academy (NLA), is Bedford County Public Schools Teacher of the Year. Grooms has been with the division as a teacher for 15 years. She previously taught at Huddleston Elementary School from 2000-2008 and was honored as the 2005 Huddleston Elementary Teacher of the Year.

BERRYVILLE - For the second time, a team of students from Clarke County High School (CCHS) has won first place in the regional Widget Cup competition. The problem-solving and design contest was held April 7 at the Shihadeh Innovation Center in Winchester.

Bristol, Va school leaders create "Fentanyl Awareness Day" to prevent student deaths

BRISTOL, Va--The Bristol community has seen a significant rise in overdoses and deaths related to Fentanyl, and now school leaders are working to prevent student drug overdoses. Since the pandemic began, the Bristol Virginia Fire Department/EMS has responded to over 200 overdose calls, many related to Fentanyl.

Roanoke City Public Schools names 2022 "Teacher of the Year"

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - It was a special night at The Jefferson Center as Roanoke City Public Schools took the time to celebrate its teachers. One teacher from all 28 schools earned individual honors as "Teacher of the Year." Eboni Harrington, the 2021 Teacher of the Year welcomed the teachers to the event.
