Chesterfield officials boost hourly rate, offer $3k in bonuses to lure bus drivers as transportation woes persist

Hanover County Public Schools, which is short 34 bus drivers, does not provide driver bonuses. Instead, the district offers pay incentives for those who will drive additional routes. Chesterfield previously paid $17.21 an hour. Richmond pays $16.85 an hour, Hanover pays $15.75, and Henrico pays $14.91.

The Supreme Court of Virginia on Monday rejected a Loudoun County Public Schools appeal challenging a circuit court judge's decision to reinstate a teacher who was suspended after remarks made during a May school board meeting, according to court records.

Watch Now: Sandusky Middle School eighth graders explore wildlife, ecosystems along the James River

Eighth graders at Sandusky Middle School got their hands dirty Monday as they spent time exploring the James River and its wildlife. Students ventured out to Riveredge Park in Amherst County and spent the morning kayaking, testing water samples, learning about the geography of the river, and collecting and identifying water insects.

Salem City Schools appoints superintendent

SALEM, Va. (WDBJ) - Salem City Schools has appointed a new superintendent from within. Curtis Hicks, who begins his new position September 30, has been an assistant superintendent for the division since 2014, and a central office administrative employee since 2007. His appointment was unanimously approved by the School Board at a meeting Tuesday morning.

Richmond Public Schools prepares to welcome 20,000 students for in-person learning

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - On Sept. 8, Richmond Public Schools (RPS) will welcome back 20,000 students for in-person learning, with another 2,000 opting for the division's virtual academy. Virtual learning options for students are also drying up. The division's virtual academy is now at capacity as the delta variant has parents rethinking those choices.

Protest held as Nelson County again closes schools

NELSON COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Parents and students in Nelson County are demanding answers after a fight and other factors closed schools for two days. Nelson County Public Schools announced early Monday, August 30, that the sheriff's office was investigating online threats against the schools.
