Virginia Standards of Learning testing data released

The Virginia Department of Education reported the results of the 2020-21 Standards of Learning assessments Thursday. This is the first SOL testing data in two years after Virginia education officials were allowed to cancel federally mandated tests for the 2019-20 school year. A group of parents in Loudoun County, Va., has filed a recall petition against school board member Beth Barts, after gathering roughly 1,860 signatures in favor of her removal - meeting the percentage threshold required under Virginia law, The parent group Fight for Schools lodged the 152-page petition in Loudoun County Circuit Court on Wednesday.

Rappahannock closes its two public schools for the week due to virus cases

Rappahannock County Public Schools on Tuesday closed its two schools and switched to virtual learning due to COVID-19 and flu cases. Health department recommends temporary closure of Amherst secondary schools

The Virginia Department of Health has recommended Amherst County Public Schools temporarily close all of its secondary schools starting Thursday due to a COVID-19 outbreak. The closure, which lasts until Sept. 2, includes Amherst County High School, Amherst and Monelison middle schools, and the Amherst Education Center, according to a video announcement Wednesday evening from Superintendent Rob Arnold.
