School division announces administration changes at 5 schools

The Fauquier County School Division announced last week several changes to school administration at five schools. All the changes will be effective for the 2022-2023 school year. Donna Guzman, the principal of Marshall Middle School for four years, will leave that role to take up a position in the school division's student services office.

ACPS creating equal opportunities in the classroom

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Albemarle County Public Schools is fully transitioning out of its traditional leveling program. This means students will be in the same courses no matter their abilities. ACPS Spokesperson Phil Giaramita says, ultimately, this is about fairness and making sure students aren't behind just because of their test scores forma young age.

New Fairfax County superintendent gives insight into priorities during town hall

Dr. Michelle Reid's first day as superintendent is set for July 1. FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. - Nearly a month after Fairfax County Public Schools named its new superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid, she gave insight Tuesday night into her priorities through a virtual town hall put on by the school system.

School board hears rights resolution

Thursday night the school board heard a first reading of a parental rights resolution. The resolution was presented as an information item. The resolution declares that it is parents' fundamental right to direct their children's education. It also declares that education must focus on academic subjects and parents have the right to opt out of anything that they are concerned about.

Local schools name division teachers of the year

As the school year winds down, local school divisions are taking time to honor those teachers who go the extra mile. King & Queen, King William, New Kent and West Point public schools recently named their division teachers of the year. Lawson-Marriott Elementary School science teacher Shari May Cecil nabbed the honor for King & Queen Schools.
