'Flying Sauciers' culinary team, representing 4 local school districts, named finalists in NASA culinary challenge

HAMPTON, Va. - The New Horizons Regional Education Centers' Culinary Arts Program has been named as a finalist in a national NASA culinary challenge. The "Flying Sauciers" team, under the leadership of Chef Carol Robbs, secured their place in the finals of the 2022 NASA HUNCH Culinary Challenge with recipes for shrimp fajitas, Mexican street corn casserole and kickin' brownie cookies.

Ribbon-cutting held for new Jouett Elementary School classroom complex

LOUISA Co., Va. (WWBT) - A ribbon-cutting was held for a new classroom complex at Jouett Elementary School in Louisa. The complex includes 13 classrooms, two resource rooms, a lobby and a courtyard. The building takes the place of modular units that were used for several classrooms over the past few years.

Hearing scheduled for appeal in Spotsylvania School Board case

The Edwards Law Firm has filed an appeal of a judge's dismissal of two claims made on behalf of Courtland High School graduate Makaila Keyes against the Spotsylvania School Board. The original lawsuit filed last month alleges that School Board Chairman Kirk Twigg violated Keyes's rights under Virginia's Freedom of Information Act by presenting a "substantially and materially altered" agenda for the Jan.

Bristol Virginia School Board approves new school funding agreement

BRISTOL, Va. - Calling a new school "long overdue," the Bristol Virginia School Board approved financing and lease agreements Monday to construct a new school in the city for the first time in 50 years. Board Chairman Randy Alvis, who has served on the board for more than a decade, was appreciative of the chance to take the vote.

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - For the seventh year running, the annual Thank a Teacher campaign is encouraging Virginians to send special thank-you notes to recognize K-12 public school teachers. The competition will take place from May 2 till May 6, during National Teacher Appreciation Week.

Virginia teacher runs 105 miles to Washington DC to help send students to college

WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - Louisa County English teacher Kate Fletcher arrived in Washington DC with a wide smile even as her legs shaked from exhaustion and cold. The finish line at the Lincoln Memorial marked mile number 105 in her epic 2-day marathon that began in Virginia.
