With new K-5 learning program, Hampton City Schools flex virtual learning muscles

School division partners with Ferrum College to fill staffing shortages

Franklin County Public Schools has started a partnership with Ferrum College to provide the division with college students to fill temporary staffing shortages. The division has been plagued with staffing shortages for sometime. The partnership was unanimously approved by the Franklin County School Board during its monthly meeting Feb. 14.

'Tebow Bill' would allow homeschoolers in Virginia to play public school sports

In Virginia, the State Senate will soon consider a bill that would allow homeschooled students to participate in public school sports and activities like band. Delegate Marie March, who represents the 7th district, introduced House Bill 511 which has advanced on a narrow 50 to 49 vote.

Proposed Henrico Schools budget grows to $762.9M to include 5% raises for staff - The Henrico Citizen

Henrico officials have added $20.4 million to the proposed Henrico County Public Schools budget for the upcoming fiscal year to include 5% pay raises for all eligible staff members. The total HCPS proposed budget now sits at $762.9 million, which represents an increase of 7.8% (or about $55.4 million) from the current year's adopted budget.

Construction under way on long-awaited Rollins Ford Regional Park in western Prince William

Construction on Rollins Ford Regional Park, located in western Prince William County, got under way this week. The new park is expected to open in the fall of 2023. The nearly 70-acre park is located between Rollins Ford and Glenkirk roads. Prince William acquired land for the park in 2006.

Spotsylvania School Board discusses superintendent search in another chaotic meeting

The Spotsylvania School Board agreed Tuesday to hire a consulting firm to conduct the search for a new superintendent, but accomplished little else during another disorderly meeting.

Interim District 7 Bedford school board rep appointed

After interviewing three finalists for Bedford County's vacant District 7 school board seat, the board on Thursday appointed Christopher Daniels to the position. The board voted 5-2 to appoint Daniels, with District 5 representative Georgia Hairston and District 1 representative Susan Mele voting no.

Warren County School Board delays action on budget

The Warren County School Board delayed action on the proposed fiscal 2023 budget this week after members raised questions. Chairwoman Kristen J. Pence, Vice Chairman Ralph A. Rinaldi and members Antoinette D. Funk and Melanie C. Salins voted in favor of a motion to table the proposed spending plan for further review and discussion.
