The reposting of a vague school threat on social media later determined to be from 2018 prompted local law enforcement to converge on Carroll County High chool on Thursday morning with students beginning their day walking through metal detectors.

Morgan Cole of Southland Dairy Farmers gave a 30-minute lesson in dairy products and farming at Grayson County schools, with moo-ving commentary from Clover, the cow brought along to demonstrate milking.

Rare drone class takes off at Northumberland High School

WTVR, 3/24/23 … At Northumberland High School, students are learning about future jobs flying drones. Jay Lightfoot is the Unmanned Aerial Systems Instructor. This is a new class that only 20 high schools in the state are teaching, all thanks to a grant from the Department of Education.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Va. (WCYB) — The Washington County, Virginia Schools has named its new superintendent.

Keith Perrigan, the current school superintendent in Bristol, Virginia, will assume his new role July 1.

Backlog in Va. teacher license applications stalls candidates amid shortage

Richmond Times-Dispatch, 4/10/23 … A backlog in Virginia’s teacher licensure application system is leaving qualified candidates waiting six months – and in some cases much longer – for the state to process their applications.

Spotsy's Taylor suggests local funds for teacher raises may be used for other expenses

County funds earmarked for giving raises to school division staff may not be used for that purpose, Superintendent Mark Taylor suggested in an email to County Administrator Ed Petrovitch.

In the April 3 email, which The Free Lance–Star obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request, Taylor responded to a question from county finance staff about the local cost of 5% and 7% pay increases for school division staff.
