Millions of dollars coming to Virginia schools to help address supply chain issues

ROANOKE, Va. - Relief is on the way for schools that are seeing supply chain issues impact their meal programs. On Friday, the USDA announced the Biden administration has distributed up to $1.5 billion to states and school districts having trouble getting food due to supply chain issues during the pandemic.

Chairman of King William School Board resigns after 18 years on board

Steven Tupponce, the chairman of the board of King William Public Schools, has unexpectedly resigned from the School Board after 18 years. Tupponce tendered his resignation earlier this month effective Jan. 1. His term was due to expire in December 2023.

Students address school board about Confederate flags, start petition for a ban

Several Orange County High School students and alumni are seeking school board action stemming from a Nov. 5 incident at the school during which some students felt threatened by other students wearing or bearing controversial flags. The flags included the Gadsden flag, Trump flags (one with profanity) and what is commonly known as the Confederate flag or the Dixie flag.

Local Schools See Spike In COVID Cases, Quarantines

The number of COVID-19 cases in area schools has remained relatively low since school started in late August. However, as of late, numbers are on the rise for Harrisonburg City Public Schools and Rockingham County Public Schools. There are 44 active cases for RCPS and they are spread out across the school zones.

Richmond schools give out 4,000+ meal kits ahead of holiday break

RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond Public Schools staffers handed out more than 4,000 meal packs Saturday to students and their families, as well as anyone else in need ahead of the winter break. Each student was given two packs with enough food for 10 days, which includes breakfast, lunch, snacks and a gallon of milk.

Charlottesville to cut school bus waitlist in half

An average of 95% of students division-wide attended school in November, which is on par with pre-pandemic rates.
