Colonial Heights School Board selects new division superintendent: Educator of 34 years

COLONIAL HEIGHTS - Haidee Napier was named the new division superintendent of Colonial Heights Public Schools [CHPS] by the Colonial Heights School Board on Wednesday, June 7. Napier, 56, is currently the division's Interim Director of Curriculum and Assessment. Her new role becomes effective on July 1, 2023.

Unadjusted SOL scores show improvement in Fredericksburg City student performance

Fredericksburg City Public School students improved their performance in 26 subjects and maintained their performance in four more, according to unadjusted scores from the standards-of-learning tests taken last month. Lori Bridi, the school division's chief academic officer, presented information about the unadjusted SOL scores to the School Board on Monday night.

Richneck Elementary will have new leadership, including principal, director for crisis planning and response

The Newport News School Board on Tuesday approved several new hires and appointments, including naming a new principal and assistant principal for Richneck Elementary. The board also named an executive director of crisis planning, prevention and response and a director of school safety.

Axton Elementary students get new books to read

Kindergartners at Axton Elementary have received 10 books for their "home libraries." Through the support of the Monogram Foods Loves Kids Foundation, Axton Elementary students in Henry County have new reading material for the summer, a release stated. "Our students ended up getting 10 books each with this generous donation," said Axton Elementary Kindergarten Teacher Hannah Sullivan in the release.
