Botetourt County Public Schools celebrates academic success

Botetourt County Public Schools shared their success during the state of the county presentation this past week. As a division, they ranked highly in several subjects. Out of 132 school divisions across Virginia, they ranked 4th in math and 7th in overall reading.

Warren County School Board approves robotic field painter

At a recent meeting of the Warren County School Board, board members approved funding for a robotic field painter for the county's high school athletic fields. No one spoke at a public hearing about the Fiscal Year 2023 budget, and a discussion of the budget wasn't on the meeting agenda.

Caroline School Board seats student representative

The Caroline County School Board seated a student representative last month, the division announced in its monthly newsletter. Caroline High School Junior Malayla Courtney was selected through an "extensive application and interview process" and was introduced to the community at the Jan. 23 School Board meeting.

HCPS recognizes students and board

The Henry County Public Schools (HCPS) recognized multiple groups of students and received recognition from the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA). Two students, Dakota Carter and Lakyn Cochran, competed at the Piedmont District Scholastic Bowl, with Cochran winning first team and Carter winning second team.

Fairfax Co. school board expected to vote on calendar next week

Virginia's largest school system is scheduled to vote on a future calendar at its meeting next week, after a weekslong process that included community feedback. It's unclear, though, whether Fairfax County Public School board members will support just a calendar for 2023-24, or a multiyear plan as some have advocated for.

Henrico County Public Schools are looking for qualified candidates to join the HCPS family. On Tuesday, Feb. 7 HCPS human resource representatives will be seeking candidates to fill multiple positions at the Libby Mill Library located at 2100 Libbie Lake E St from 10 a.m.

The job of director of equity and engagement for Roanoke County Public Schools came and went rapidly. Less than two years ago, amid a period of national reckoning on racial issues county schools created an administrative position tasked with diversifying an educational staff of about 2,200 employees.

CCS board endorses collective bargaining

The Charlottesville School Board has endorsed collective bargaining for staff in the Charlottesville City Schools division. Supporters say this announcement will allow them to have a say in their pay, benefits, and working conditions. "We are now on an adventure for the betterment of the families and kids of our city," said Charlottesville Education Association President Jessica Taylor.
