$511 million Henrico bond referendum includes $89M for rebuild of Quioccasin Middle

Henrico County voters will see a four-question bond referendum on their ballots this fall. The county is asking voters for their approval to issue $511.4 million in bonds. The Commonwealth of Virginia requires counties to have a bond referendum - a vote of the people to to issue general obligation bonds.

First meeting of new school year focuses on discipline, crisis plan

A student currently being home schooled by Floyd County Public Schools must undergo a psycho-sexual evaluation by December. The matter was discussed in closed session at the Aug. 4 Floyd County Public School Board meeting since it pertains to disciplinary action of a specific student, as were several other student-specific cases.

Although many of the nation's schools are scrambling to find enough teachers as the new school year draws near, Loudoun County Public Schools seems to have avoided falling into that category as students return to class next week. Roanoke City Public Schools holds in person back to school extravenganza

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - Roanoke City Public Schools are a couple of days away from the first day of class. Saturday RCPS hosted its annual Back to School Extravaganza. "We do this every year so that our students are prepared and ready to learn," said RCPS Superintendent Verletta White White says they are thrilled to host the event in person this year.

Montgomery County school fix-it list raises board's attention

CHRISTIANSBURG - Several Montgomery County School Board members raised their eyebrows during a recent meeting upon learning of a list of infrastructural problems, several of which have been known about for years. Northern Virginia school districts see some gains in pass rates - WTOP News

The Virginia Department of Education has released the final results of its pass rates for the 2021 to 2022 school year, and it shows gains for many Northern Virginia districts in several subjects. While up overall, statewide numbers remained below pre-pandemic levels. Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin blamed learning loss from prolonged school shutdowns for the results.

RICHMOND - A counselor for Virginia's largest public school system kept his job for more than a year and a half after his arrest on charges of soliciting prostitution from a minor, a newspaper reported.

Williamsburg-James City County School Board votes to increase meal prices starting this school year

After much debate, the Williamsburg-James City County School Board on Tuesday approved a student meal price increase for the 2022-2023 school year. Lunch prices will increase by 35 cents in elementary and middle schools, and lunch will cost 40 cents more in high schools. Breakfast will increase by 25 cents for all levels.
