Fredericksburg City Council approves comprehensive agreement for construction of new middle school

Fredericksburg City Council on Tuesday approved a comprehensive agreement paving the way for construction of a new middle school to begin this spring, with an anticipated opening in August 2025. The agreement is a contract between the School Board and First Choice, LLC, the public-private partnership selected by the school division to design and build the new school.

A new survey of Fairfax County Public School (FCPS) students shows local teens have been facing a decline in mental health over the last few years. The Fairfax County Youth Survey is an anonymous and voluntary survey of students in grades 6, 8, 10 and 12.

School Board honors Zehr's wife

Karen Zehr, wife of the late Francis Zehr, was recognized by the Henry County School Board Thursday night at a regular meeting. A resolution honoring the life and memory of Francis Zehr was presented to Karen Zehr noting his combined 46 years of service to Henry County Schools as a teacher and school board member.

Pittsylvania County one-percent sales tax increase referendum is approved

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - The Pittsylvania County one-percent sales tax increase referendum passed by around 900 votes on Election Day. The referendum lost by 14 votes last year, but the Vote Yes to PCS campaign began earlier this year.

Waynesboro High School students petition against transgender policy changes

Waynesboro High School staff and students presented Waynesboro School Board with a petition protesting proposed policies by Gov. Glenn Youngkin for transgender and nonbinary public school students at its regular meeting Tuesday night. "My hope for all of our children - is that all our children have the tools and support they need to flourish," Jordan Zipser of Staunton said.

Improvements turn Arlington school's playground into learning bazaar

Regular physical activity is essential to help children build strong muscles and bones, improve fine motor skills, focus better in the classroom and maintain mental health.
