Va. FOIA Council backs bill to cap fees governments charge for public records

State officials who study open government issues are recommending the General Assembly adopt legislation next year that would limit the high fees government agencies are allowed to charge for public records. The Virginia Freedom of Information Advisory Council voted 10-3 Wednesday to recommend a bill from Del. Danica Roem, D-Prince William.

Stafford County schools unanimously votes Dr. Thomas Taylor as next superintendent

The Stafford County School Board voted 7-0 at a special called meeting to appoint Dr. Thomas W. Taylor as the school division’s next superintendent effective December 1, 2021. Taylor currently serves as the Deputy Superintendent for Chesterfield County Public Schools (Richmond area, Va.

Superintendent pulls graphic novel from high school library

Over a hundred picnic tables delivered to Richmond schools, more to come

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - It can be suffocating staying inside all day, so a Richmond non-profit is making it easier for Richmond's youngest by donating 150 picnic tables to Richmond elementary schools. Richmond ToolBank has been preparing the picnic tables since early October; they were made entirely by volunteers.

Intersession a success - Farmville

Prince Edward County Public Schools (PECPS) offered a week-long intersession in October. This was the first of two one-week-long intersessions planned into the 2021-2022 school calendar. Intersession was strategically scheduled to provide intervention, enrichment and acceleration activities following a grading cycle or nine-week period, rather than delaying these experiences until the summer.

Petersburg school leaders to discuss program offering alternative punishment to short-term suspension

PETERSBURG, Va. (WWBT) - School leaders in Petersburg will be holding a special school board meeting to discuss a new program that would be an alternative punishment to short-term out-of-school suspension. Students in the program will be marked present, receive credit for schoolwork that is completed and will not have an out-of-school suspension noted on their school record.
