Danville voters approve school bonds, 1% hike in sales tax

DANVILLE, Va. - Voters in Danville have approved school bonds and a 1% hike in sales tax that will benefit capital improvements for city schools. About 60% of voters backed the sales tax increase, according to Danville Public Schools. School officials said that a majority of schools in the city were built before 1955.

Montgomery County School Board races: incumbent Bond, newcomer Hudson earn seats

Incumbent Jamie Bond earned another term on the Montgomery County School Board Tuesday while Linwood Hudson won the other competitive board contest. Bond, a board member since 2005, was reelected in her District D race against Travis Williams. District D includes part of Christiansburg and the Riner area.

Gordon wins school board chair, GOP ticket dominates Page County ballots | County |

By Randy Arrington LURAY, Nov. 2 - After an unsuccessful write-in campaign last November, Megan Gordon took a 3-to-1 margin of victory at the polls on Tuesday over Jason Scott Breeden, the incumbent chair of the Page County School Board. Gordon captured 74 percent of the ballots with 6,157 votes - compared to Breeden's 2,082 votes (25 percent).

Graham Paige will represent the Samuel Miller district on the Albemarle County School Board for another two years after beating back a write-in challenge from Randy Zackrisson. Paige received 71% of the 5,642 votes cast, according to unofficial results posted online Tuesday night.

Incumbent Larson-Torres top vote-getter in Charlottesville School Board race

Two new people are joining the Charlottesville School Board after votes were counted Tuesday night. Three of the seven seats were on the ballot this year. Incumbent Lisa Larson-Torres received the most votes - 7,329 - from among the five candidates in her bid for a second term, according to unofficial results posted online Tuesday.
