WPS equity efforts continue despite state policies

WINCHESTER - Efforts to provide a more culturally responsive curriculum and inclusive environment will continue in Winchester Public Schools despite Virginia's suspension of racial equity programs, according to Superintendent Jason Van Heukelum.

RPS school leaders vote to renovate existing Fox Elementary building during special meeting

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - The Richmond school board has voted to stabilize and renovate the existing Fox Elementary School building. The board voted 6-0 to renovate the building, with three board members not present. "What it means for Fox is that it's time to get the building stabilized immediately," 2nd District Representative Mariah White said.

Superintendent proposes shuffle of Quicksburg campus students

At the Shenandoah County School Board meeting on Thursday, Superintendent Melody Sheppard proposed reorganizing classes at the county's southern campus in Quicksburg. She suggested moving the fifth grade from North Fork Middle School to Honey Run Elementary School and the eighth grade from Mountain View High School to North Fork.

Prince William School Board signs off on $1.4B spending plan for fiscal '23

The Prince William County School Board approved its $1.4 billion fiscal 2023 operating budget Wednesday night, sending it on to the Board of County Supervisors, where it will need final approval by the end of April.

Henrico eighth-graders to receive full-ride scholarships to Virginia Union University

HENRICO, Va. (WWBT) - Eighth-grade students from Henrico County Public Schools were selected to receive fully paid tuition to Virginia Union University after graduating high school. Each of the middle schoolers chosen was surprised at school with "VUU Henrico Scholars" awards, meaning upon graduating from an HCPS high school in 2026, they will have their bachelor's degree tuition paid in full no matter what they decide to major in.

FCPS students bring home DECA accolades

A total of 153 students from 12 Fairfax County Public Schools high schools were recognized as competitive-event winners at the Virginia DECA State Leadership Conference, held in Virginia Beach March 2-6. Award-winning students earned the right to compete at the DECA International Career Development Conference April 23-26.

Schools outline superintendent qualifications; School board collects input through survey, public hearing

As Orange County Public Schools' Superintendent Dr. Cecil Snead's June 30 retirement date nears, the education community is discussing what qualifications and characteristics they want to see in his replacement. At the Orange County School Board's regular meeting on March 7, a public hearing was held for members of the community to give input on the superintendent search.
