WPS gets $7.8 million grant

WINCHESTER - A $7.8 million federal taxpayer grant awarded to Winchester Public Schools is the largest the school division has ever received. It's designed to improve teacher and student performance through better recruitment and retainment of staff and allow for more diverse hiring.

New Kent County High School to hold Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine clinic for children ages 5-11

NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. (WWBT) - New Kent County High School will be hosting a Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine clinic for students ages 5-11. Parents and guardians must be with children who will receive the vaccine. The vaccine clinic will take place at New Kent High School from 4 p.m.

Chesapeake teacher receives 'Teacher Heroes of COVID-19' award among 24 other U.S. educators

CHESAPEAKE, Va. - A Chesapeake teacher was honored as a Ford Freedom Unsung "Teacher Hero of COVID-19" for her work in the community as an educator. Ford Motor Company announced the winners of the Ford Freedom Unsung "Teacher Heroes of COVID-19" awards, which honor 25 U.S. educators.

York County supervisors, school board will discuss withholding school funds over critical race theory lessons

Shenandoah County school buses to have Wi-Fi installed

All Shenandoah County Public Schools buses will have Wi-Fi by mid-December according to a press release. The school division was awarded just under $400,000 in funding for the project as part of the Federal Communications Commission's Emergency Connectivity Fund program. The funding covers the equipment, installation and one year of internet service for each of the 114 buses.

NPS: More than 2,000 students in Norfolk already vaccinated against COVID-19

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - More than 2,000 students are already partially vaccinated against COVID-19, according to Norfolk Public Schools. In a post on social media Monday, NPS officials say more than 2,000 students, between the age of 5 and 11, across 32 schools, have been given their first dose of the vaccine.

Public input needed for FCPS FY 2022-23 budget - The Tidewater News
